A Humbling Experience

Our daily lives are so filled to the brim, it usually takes something pretty significant to grant us perspective. Last week I had the honor of speaking at the Business School of my alma mater Chapman University.

Like many entrepreneurs, I am blessed to experience little successes and achievements almost everyday. But it's hard to qualify what is a real game-changing feat.

I was so humbled to present to a group of students sitting where I sat just a few short years ago! As I shared my material and advice, I couldn't help but marvel at the significance of the whole thing.

I was invited by my old marketing professor, seen above. My handsome hubby is in the middle.

But I have to admit, my favorite part was answering questions from all of the students afterwards.

It was so wonderful to get their feedback to see what really resonated and struck a cord with them. I received the most thoughtful "thank you" emails for days after the event.

The whole thing made me curious...

What did it take to make you feel successful?

Or if you're not there yet, what do you think it will be?

Something personal, professional or financial? What achievement will mark the ultimate success for you?

I can't wait to hear. I'll be personally reviewing all responses.

  1. Like you, I experience small milestones in my business everyday. TODAY, I feel as though I have REALLY achieved success. My book, Successful People are Full of C.R.A.P. It’s been a labor of love, but knowing that my message is out there on such a great scale and knowing that I’m going to be helping THOUSANDS of lives change means everything to me!

What makes me feel successful is knowing that what I do everyday is exactly what I was meant to do. The very first time I spoke after starting my business was at a youth conference. I was told by the organizer that the kids really enjoyed what I had to share and wanted me to come back next year. That made me feel that what I do really does inspire others to find their true purpose and passion in life.

I’ve been blessed with the feeling of success a few times. But I specifically recall the first time I saw a product I designed and manufactured being carried through an airport and it was just the greatest feeling. Your question has inspired me to think about an acheivement that will mark ultimate success my new venture. Hhhmmmm….

I have quite a list, but top of it is the day I completed the adoption of our first child from Romania in 1990! I went on to facilitate almost fifty adoptions over the following 10 years, including those of our two daughters.

Subsequent challenges can mask your successes, so it is good to review and relive them and know that you can be successful again.

I heard an eminent Entrepreneur speak recently about the fact that success is ‘being able to pay your bills and do some nice things too’. Interesting.

Success for me is every time you see the best reflection of yourself in someone elses eyes. It doesn’t matter how big or small the reason or event. It sounds like you reflected in many eyes during your travels. Congrats.

I’m not sure what it will take. I have an awesome product, but, my why just isn’t there. My husband is getting ready to retire and I need to step up my game to help with retirement. Any suggestions?
